Food Aid Program

Location: Makamba, Muyinga, Ngozi and Bubanza
Duration: January 2021- December 2022
In cooperation with: World Food Program and UNHCR

Help a Child, in cooperation with World Food Program and UNHCR, is supporting more than 19,000 refugees from DRC, living in Kinama and Musasa refugee camps in Muyinga. Refugees living in these camps lack vital means to meet basic needs and remain heavily dependent on humanitarian assistance. The program is focused on providing and arranging access to basic needs: food and safe water, shelter, health care, water, sanitation, and hygiene. Extra attention goes to the support of pregnant women, young mothers, and people with HIV or other diseases who are in need of nutritional support.

Help a Child coordinates the distribution of food (cereals, vegetables, oil, and salt) delivered by WFP, and non-food items, delivered by UNHCR. To facilitate a smooth distribution and reduce the risk of fraud, Help a Child makes use of an electronic mapping and identification system.
