Child Centered Community development (CCCD) programme in Tamu

Timeline: 2016-2021
Project location: Tamu (Kisumu)

Aim: to improve livelihood of the community in Tamu through enhanced standards of education, community health and social-economic development of vulnerable households.

Our pathways of change are:

  • Child participation
  • Equip caregivers with relevant parenting skills to address child protection issues
    Advocate for fatherhood parleys that are relevant and involved in child protection matters
    WASH
  • Rehabilitation of water sources to reduce the prevalence of water borne diseases
    In collaboration with the community, realize Open Defecation Free Areas (ODF) in 13 villages in Tamu
    Social Economic Empowerment
  • Realization of economic safety nets
    Enrich the capacity of farmers, youth and self-help groups through training in entrepreneurship, business management, Agribusiness & value addition
    Facilitation of CLAs to strengthen community social risk fund systems

Child Centered Community Development (CCCD) Program in Mavindini

Time line: 2016 – 2022
Goal: improved living standards of children, youth, parents and the whole community in a sustainable way.

Our pathways of change:

Basic Education
In partnership with the Ministry of Education, Help a Child Africa supports quality improvement of 8 primary schools. We strengthen Board of Managements and build the capacity of Early Childhood Education instructors.

Youth Empowerment
Help a Child supports Child Based Organizations to link youths with government bodies and micro-finance institutions and to deliver mentorship and life skills training. We strengthen youth groups on financial literacy and other skills.

Community Empowerment & Livelihoods
We improve the livelihoods of vulnerable households through (climate smart) food production and development of income generating activities. This is done through strengthening of existing community structures such as self-help groups and Cluster Level Associations.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
We strengthen community health units and water resource management committees to promote hygiene, enhanced health, child well-being and sanitation.

Parenting & Child Protection
We build the capacity of child protection structures within the community as well as relevant external partners. We strengthen the fatherhood parley to promote skillful parenting.

Time line: 2014-2022

Goal: to improve physical, spiritual, mental, psychological and social wellbeing of children and youth in Gwassi.

  • Build the economic, social and political capacity of community structures for better sustainability
  • Basic Education
  • In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the community, strengthen the capacity of teachers and improving the school infrastructure
  • Strengthen child protection structures through training, linkage and partnership between community and relevant duty bearers
  • Youth & Work
  • Provision of Technical Vocational and Agricultural Skills Training (TVET/AVET) & Business Development Services
