Together with our partners, we are responding to the humanitarian needs of communities affected by protracted crises (internally displaced persons, returnees and vulnerable host families). We provide seeds and agricultural tools, direct cash to households and work with households to reduce their vulnerability through technical training on good agricultural practices and their support in the implementation of Self-Help Groups in order to strengthen their self-learning skills in the Masisi and Fizi health zones. Through our water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes at primary schools and in the communities, we work to improve sanitation facilities and access to clean drinking water.

In this programme, we focus on promoting equitable access to education in a safe and protective learning environment for crisis-affected children (girls and boys) and reduce overcrowding in schools that have taken in displaced children. We also facilitate access to basic social services for vulnerable children aged 0 to 17, by strengthening referral mechanisms in a protective environment and resilience mechanisms for children and/or victims of protection in schools and the community. To support and facilitate access by children affected by humanitarian crises to protection services and inclusive, relevant quality education, Help a Child, in collaboration with community protection structures (DIVAS and EPST), proposes the What’s Up approach.
