The Peace and Community Cohesion project contributes to the reduction and mitigation of community-level conflict and insecurity by addressing key drivers of conflict and insecurity. As cattle movement is a returning root cause for conflict in the area, Help a Child facilitated community dialogues between farmers, cattle keepers, traditional chiefs, youth, women, county authorities, and peace partners. This resulted in a ‘Marial Bai Agreement’, which was unanimously accepted by all involved stakeholders.
Another key activity has been to establish and train community-based child protection committees in the various project locations. The main responsibilities of the committees are to advocate for children’s rights, identify and report child abuse, and provide basic psychosocial support to children who have undergone any kind of abuse.
A third activity has been to promote peace and youth and community empowerment through Boruboru sports events. In total, six social & protection campaigns were organized through Boruboru sports, reaching 10,724 individuals with peace and empowerment messages.
Other activities have been to organize advocacy workshops on several themes, such as child marriage, child abuse, gender-based violence cattle raiding, and cattle movement.
