Basic Education and Child Protection

Change starts with education. However, there are several factors that hinder the access to education for the children in Malawi. By addressing issues like early marriages, early pregnancies and other reasons for school dropouts; our program promotes the importance of education for boys and girls alike.

We raise awareness through campaigns like radio programs and open school days. We also facilitate the process of assessing and addressing the issues as a community by actively engaging with parents, traditional leaders and school committees. And to address child protection issues Help a Child supports communities to set up child protection by-laws and structures within the community.

The children themselves are also involved in this process. Through Children’s Corners children are taught about children’s rights and life skills. These gatherings give children a voice. Here they learn how to articulate the issues affecting them to the school management committees and local leaders.
