May 6th - This weekend, cyclone Fani touched the east coast of India, causing severe damage in the state of Orissa. Electricity and transportation was cut off. In Gajapati, a new project area, in some places relief camps have been opened already, and families are staying there now. In Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi the project locations are safe so far but heavy rains are still on. As far as we have heard, only minor injuries to few people were reported, no loss of lives from our areas reported so far. In some areas the drinking water got polluted and transportation is not possible or at least very challenging in most of the areas hit. Although the intensity of Fani has reduced in Bengal, it will pass over Kolkata today. We will keep you updated.
