Forensic Medical Examinations
- Medical evaluation by a physician or by an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) specially trained in sexual assault diagnosis.
- Collection of evidence for prosecution through the court system.
- Testing for sexually transmitted disease (STD).
- Testing at the request of law enforcement for the presence of date rape drugs .
- Dispensing of antibiotics to prevent STD's as a result of the crime.
- Dispensing, if medically indicated, of temporary birth control to lower the chance of pregnancy as a result of the crime.
- A rape crisis counselor or victim advocate will be present to provide immediate crisis counseling.
- Help in accessing financial assistance for losses incurred due to the assault.
AFTER Clinic's Follow-Up Medical Treatment
- The clinic will test/retest for sexually transmitted disease.
- A follow-up medical exam.
- A rape crisis counselor is available to provide crisis counseling.
