The Child Protection Team Program is a medically directed multidisciplinary program based on the idea that child abuse and neglect cases involve complex issues and require the expertise of many professionals, in collaboration, to protect children. The purpose of the Team is to assist Child Protective Investigations and law enforcement in their investigations of child abuse cases with the provision of diagnostic services, case consultation, and assessment services.
Child Protection Team Hours
The Child Protection Team office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Staff members can be reached at the Help A Child phone number - (727) 544-3900. Help A Child, on-call staff members are available 24 hours a day in case of emergencies requiring CPT assessment services. To access emergency after-hours services, child protection investigations and law enforcement may call (727) 562-6200. To answer more general questions relating to child abuse and neglect and locate area resources within the 727 area code, call the 211 Helpline. The State of Florida is divided into 12 districts and one larger region by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Some districts are made up of several counties, while other districts are made up of one county. Some districts have one Child Protection Team (CPT) and some have more than one CPT. Pinellas County has its own CPT. There are currently 23 CPTs in the state. Some of the teams also have satellite offices to reach more rural areas of the district.
